The village is located in the pre-park zone of Rila National Park, along the river Cherni Iskar. Located in the Govedarska valley at 1157 m above sea level, it has a temperate-continental climate with a minimum January temperature of -33.6 ° C and a maximum of +30.3° C in July.
There is snow on average 160 days a year, and in winter the snow cover is over 120 cm.
The most accessible road to the village is from Samokov (13 km) through the village of Madjare (1 km) asphalt road, but can also be reached from Sapareva Banya through the resort Panichishte on a dirt road by off-road vehicle.
Above the valley is Malyovitsa peak and the village is one of the starting points for reaching it. From Govedartsi there are routes to Vada hut (2 hours on foot), Mechit hut (1 hour), Lovna hut (3 hours), Malyovitsa hut and mountain school (on the way to the hut and through the Ovnarsko area). Through Vada hut you can reach the Seven Rila Lakes, the hut of the same name, from Mechit hut you can reach Kobilino Branishte shelter and from Malyovitsa complex you can reach Circus Scary Lake, where there is a shelter, the other route is through Ovnarsko.
The village is a starting point for the Seven Rila Lakes, Chanatsite - 2, Urdini Lakes - 6, Malyovishki Lakes - 3, Elenini Lakes, the circus of the Scary Lake - 5 lakes, Lopushki Lakes and Dry Lake.
